Bits of Broadway - Watch Video Here
The Sierra School of Performing Arts presented Reno with “Broadway Bits” in February 2008 in the Underground Magic Theatre. “Broadway Bits” was a compilation of scenes and musical numbers inspired by beloved Broadway shows including “Peter Pan”, “Oliver”, “Chorus Line”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, and “Chicago”. More than 40 dancers, singers, and actors of all ages from Tahoe City, Incline Village, Reno, Carson City, and Fallon were cast in this production directed by Janet Lazarus. Linda Saxton, the Musical Director helped bring this family favorite to life.
In May 2006, the Sierra School of Performing Arts presented an adaptation of “Through the Looking Glass” at Galena High School. Janet Lazarus directed “Wonderland”, a story about the musical misadventures of a girl named Alice. The show was a delight among families, featuring more than 40 local performers ranging in age from elementary school students to mature adults.
The lead role of Alice was played by Reno local Connor Norton. This talented young actress has also performed with the Nevada Youth Opera Company, Bruka Theater, as well as live performances in New York City. Joy Michiel, a professional actress and singer, was another one of many local talents involved in this production.
This sensational performance received great reviews and put SSPA on the map of performing arts schools, launching the school’s exponential growth.
